It was a short but sweet trip to St. Simons this 4th of July with the Porterfield clan. We left on a Thursday night and came back on a Sunday. It was nice though we had great weather and an overall good time together. We even had time to try out a new restaurant. Here are a few pics from the week enjoy!

The Walk '09

Well I made it! Last week (and by last week I mean the 3 week of June) I was a leader at our churches high school summer camp in Panama City Beach. Two of my best friends in Atlanta co-lead a group of rising sophomores and one of them was unable to on this trip, so I took her place for the week. I had worked with high school for 5 years back in college when I volunteered with Young Life but that was 6 years ago. I was a little hesitant to go at first. Was I up for this? Do I have a heart for this age anymore? Do I want the responsibility of being in charge of these girls for a week? Do I want to try and make them like me in such a small amount of time? All these questions were running through my head. One day a few weeks ago after praying about whether I should go or not it was clear to me! I had no renovations about it! I thought a week at the beach for free, getting to act like a kid and learn more about God, are you kidding me? I’m in! J
We stayed at the Majestic Beach Resort, which were very nice accommodations. We had a morning session, an evening session, small group times, and a late night session that was for fun! The weeks messages revolved around the life of David. I know I’ve heard these stories a million times but I never get sick of them and I always take away something that I haven’t heard or thought of before. We had free time each afternoon which consisted of laying out by the crowded pool or on the beach. One day we rode on banana boats, which was definitely my favorite afternoon activity! I feel like I got to know the girls pretty well for only having met them during this week. Rachael and I got a bit frustrated during small group time because the girls never seemed that affected by the sessions they were fascinated with the lazers or Kristian Stanfil the music guy. That age is so hard because you want them to grasp what was said so bad and yet they just seem so young and not interested. I’m sure they took away more than we thought! Overall it was a really good week! I’m really glad I went.

Old School

This past Saturday Tim and I along with another couple hosted a cookout. Before Tim and I got married we were apart of this big group that got together and hungout almost every Friday and Saturday night. Well in that past few years individuals have gotten married, couples have had babies and it just hasn’t been as easy to hangout as we’d all wish, so we decided to plan a cookout so that we could all catch up with each other. It was at our house and you never really realize how much effort it is to have people over until you do. I was exhausted from prepping before the party even started, but in the end it was all worth it. We along with the other couple provided paper products, meat, and drinks and then we had other sign up to bring sides, this approach worked out well. Everyone brought such yummie dishes. The night went well catching up, listening to good music, and playing corn hole. Things have definitely changed with this group but it’s good to know we can still get together and have a good time!! Enjoy the pics.

Good Ole Friends!

Last weekend two of my good friends from college came into town. We had a great time! I lived with one of these girls and the other was over a lot so it’s like we lived together. We spent just about everyday together; I miss those days of simple life sometimes. Anyways they came into town for the Chicago/Earth Wind and Fire concert. Chicago was our theme music in college. Any road trip we took we’d blast songs like You’re the Inspiration. Needless to say this was an appropriate concert for us to attend. It was at the Verizon Amphitheater in Alpharetta which is outdoors complete with lawn seating which is where we were. I would have to say I’m a big fan of the lawn seats - just being able to spread out and relax. Anyways we had a great time at the concert. Sunday we hit up the pool after my wonderful husband made us all breakfast. We decided to skip church and just enjoy visiting since our visits are few and far between these days. It was a nice choice. After we spent a long afternoon at the pool we headed back home and Libby had to head home. Rachel and I got showered and we headed to Tim’s brother's house for dinner/slip n slide get together. It was a nice night and then back to our house where Rachel and I stayed up talking about anything and everything. Oh one last thing, Rachel brought our spring break video from 02 - it was hilarious. It’s amazing how much/little we had all changed in 7 years. One of our good friends Bradley set it to music and it really turned out well. All in all a great weekend of good times catching up with great friends! I just wish the other 3 girls in our group could have been there.

Way over due beach time!!!!

I think this is the longest Tim and I have gone without beach time in a year. We took off Thursday and Friday of last week and headed to my grandparents condo in N. Myrtle Beach. I have gone to this beach every year of my life since I was born and I’ve also spent most Christmas’s there as well. This condo is on the market now since it’s not easy for my grandparents to go and that is sad to me. I left there thinking wow this is the last time I might ever be here. Oh well back to our trip it was wonderful. We could not have asked for better weather. Evidently most of the southeast got nothing but rain for the weekend, well we didn’t have a drop! Everyday was in the high 70’s. We slept in each day, enjoyed breakfast on the balcony over looking the pool and inland water way. About 11 or 11:30 we’d pack up the cooler and head to the beach. We’d spend several hours down there or until we got hungry and then head back to the condo for lunch. We’d finish the day off at the pool and Jacuzzi. Then we’d go in and take naps and rest for awhile before heading to dinner. We ate some good food, we ventured out to find a club one night but they were loaded it up with bikers. Tim was not a fan so we opted to go home. It was black biker week down there, so about 350,000 bikers swarmed N. Myrtle and Myrtle. It really wasn’t too bad, I’m not a big fan of it when they rev their engines especially at night and that really wasn’t the case this time, so they didn’t bother me.

We had a few days by ourselves and then Saturday my mom and dad came down and brought my grandparents. It was good to spend some time with them since I don’t get to see much of my grandparents. All in all it was total relaxation which we definitely needed and some good sun! Now we’re on count down until our Napa trip in July!
